Curriculum Development: training, workshops and tertiary courses

Competency in event management is essential these days. The new International Competency Standard Event Management is highly recommended. The best way to recognize if you or your event teams need training is to follow the process below. If there are gaps then it is highly advisable to send the members to training from experts with experience in the day to day management of events. It is well to remember: event operations contain the major risks and, just like engineers or doctors, having a university degree is not enough!

Below is an example of a simple self competency assessment table to enable the attendees of a workshop or training session to identify the gaps and assess the efficacy of the training. A detailed competency assessment is recommended as it requires proof of competency i.e. proof of knowledge, skills and attitude.
